Judwaa 2 - movie review

The original Judwaa is considered to be a classic. It is a movie that I had not watched, since I had watched the original Telugu movie it was based on. The Nagarjuna starrer was a cult classic and huge hit back then. The movie was entertaining, funny, had good acting, great music, and was very well paced. The movie however has some tropes in it that were somehow considered to be acceptable back then, but are considered to be problematic in the current environment.

When I began to watch Judwaa 2, it became obvious in the first scene itself that although the movie was made to sound as a sequel, it was the exact same remake of the 1997 movie starring Salman Khan. Although remakes are fine, the movie does not even attempt to modernize the tropes in the older movie. It is still somehow appropriate to show the protagonist as having an issue where his hand starts to uncontrollably shake at the sight of a lady's backside, and it is considered to not be a problem when he proceeds to spank the backside. It is a trope that was considered to be funny back then, but is not viewed in the same light any longer. None of the characters in the movie is funny, and each character and actor portraying them lacks any charm that makes it impossible for the audience to make any connection with any of them. Varun Dhawan and Jacqueline Fernandez are irritating in every scene in the movie, while Tapsee Pannu brings about a sense of calm with her natural acting abilities.

Overall, the movie is a waste of time and is not worth anyone's time.
